Haiti Disaster Relief

Port au Prince, Haiti has been devastated by the massive earthquake that struck on January 12th, 2010.

The elders of CEFC would like to encourage everyone to pray for the people of Haiti during this time of crisis. The needs can seem overwhelming, but our Lord is at work in that country. At this time, the greatest need is for the finances which will allow organizations who have the means to begin meeting the immediate needs for food, water, shelter and medical attention.

There are many organizations who are doing a great work in Haiti. We urge those who want to help to carefully, and prayerfully consider where to send their financial gifts. As Christians, we need to be concerned about people's physical AND spiritual needs. Therefore, we encourage finding an organization that will not only help with the physical needs, but also has ties with solid Christian ministries in Haiti who will be able to meet spiritual needs. We also want to give to organizations who will be good stewards, and actually use the funds for the purpose intended by the giver. Not all organizations are as faithful to use the funds as intended, as has been demonstrated in the past.

We encourage individuals to give to organizations directly, so that the funds will be available as quickly as possible. For those who cannot give online, or over the phone, you can give to our church, designating on the memo of the check, "Haiti Relief." All gifts given to CEFC will be sent to one of the following three organizations: CrossWorld (who has missionaries on location), Samaritan's Purse (who has the means to get supplies into Haiti, and works with several Christian organizations in Haiti, including hospitals), and the EFCA (At this time the EFCA is still organizing teams and relief, so immediate gifts will go to Crossworld and/or Samaritan's Purse).

If you have further questions, please contact one of the Pastors or Elders.

Five days ago - tens of thousands died; some are still buried alive; many others have not been found; thousands of homes are destroyed. The Haiti earthquake is a mega disaster!

But what does Sunday morning five days later look like - at the UEBH seminary - and all over Haiti?

People are worshipping God - "they are...singing, praying and rejoicing in God's provision of protection," says Phyllis Schmid.

Reuters news agency reported Sunday "many Haitians turning to God".
